Time Out: A Tribute to Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond
Jazz pianist Dave Brubeck took the world by storm in 1959 with the release of the album “Time Out” which rose to No. 2 on the Billboard pop album chart and became the first jazz album to sell one million copies. Together with saxophonist Paul Desmond, their song writing and innovative performances would influence the future generations of jazz musicians. Their most famous song, “Take Five”, became a world-wide hit and, to this day, is the best-selling jazz song of all time. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996, the same year that Brubeck himself would receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The “Time Out” album would be later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009. Both Brubeck and Desmond had illustrious careers and between the two of them, recorded well over one hundred jazz albums.
The Nevin Campbell Quartet will pay tribute to these two great jazz legends. They will play selections off the infamous “Time Out” album, including Take Five and Blue Rhonda a la Turk, as well as popular selections off the vast performance catalogues of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond.
