Based on research for her book This Land, Kae Elgie will present a free, whirlwind tour of 10,000 years of food and agriculture in Southwestern Ontario at the Glencoe Public Library, 123 McKellar Street, on Wednesday May 20 at 1pm.
Elgie's research focused on Elgie's 200-acre family farm near Dresden but the findings apply to all of Southwestern Ontario. Based on expertly identified archaeological artifacts found on the Elgie farm and extensive research, Elgie will take people through 9,600 years of the evolving food and agricultural practices of people archaeologists have labelled Paleo-Indian, Archaic and Woodland. Her account of the "historic era" will go from early subsistence agriculture right up to Agri-Robotics.
For those wishing more information than a half hour talk can deliver, copies of Elgie's book, This Land: the story of two hundred acres in Kent County, Ontario will be available for purchase.
